Giving Thanks
It is Thanksgiving morning, so it is only fitting to share the things that you are thankful for with your people, your tribe. Since we are both interested in the same kinds of things, I wanted to share what I am thankful for with you. First, I am thankful to be upright, and walking around and in relatively good health. It sounds trite, but there is a good reason why health is at the top of this list this year.
The two heart attacks I had over the summer suddenly and forcefully realigned my viewpoints on the value of time, the value of money, and the importance of bringing creative projects to life. 2020 is going to be one hell of a year, but that’s a story for another time. We’ll get there.
One thing in particular that I am thankful for is that the band reached its tipping point at the last performance. The players’ anticipation of each other is getting much better, and there is an electric atmosphere that this band creates in live performance that simply cannot be experienced unless you are right in front of us. Booking opportunities are beginning to materialize, and we have a doozy of a second album in the planning stages for an April 2020 release.
Of course, I am thankful for my family and friends who helped us through the summer. Some of you live close; some far away. We needed you and you were there.
Lastly, I am thankful for the new friends that have come out to experience the band live and have supported the launch of Life in High Gravity.
So for now, I’ll leave you with our take on Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke”, which grooves really hard and features some great solo playing by trombonists Michael Kaplan and Patrick Conlon.
Have a great day with your people!
